With the continuing threat of COVID-19, and the increase in the number of COVID-19 cases, WorkSafe VIC has recently moved to implement new regulations to The Occupational Health and Safety Act in relation to COVID-19, in order to protect the health of individuals in the workplace.
The Regulations require employers to alert WorkSafe VIC in the immediate instance of becoming aware that an employee, independent contractor or contractor’s employee has received a confirmed COVID-19 diagnosis and has been in the workplace within the infectious period.
WorkSafe VIC instructed that once a COVID-19 diagnosed case is confirmed, it needs to be reported on immediately to WorkSafe VIC, and it is mandatory that full details are submitted in writing within a 48-hour period.
Heavy penalties have been set in place, and will apply for those that fail to notify WorkSafe VIC.
On 28 July 2020, the new regulations came into effect and will be in place for the next 12-month period.
These new regulations aim to reduce the health and safety risks for both employers and employees as a result of COVID-19.
